The Book was originally part of a webcomic charity called Webcomics To The Rescue, which was set up in response to the Indian Ocean Tsunami in December 2004. Since then Webcomics To The Rescue has gone the way of the Dodo and The Book is all that's left.

After three (possibly more, I can't remember) attempts at getting The Book up and running things started to look like it was actually going to happen. At that time it was going to be a full comic book sized thing, with lots of funky comics and fancy colours. I had high hopes. However, it was incredibly hard to convince charities to endorse the ramshackle anthology I had put together and finally my PC crashed, losing all the hard work up to that point!

Starting again and e-mailing all the web-cartoonists involved, much of The Book was salvaged and the decision was made to keep it very, very simple.
